Tom Schultz: Media Ministry at Crossroads
by Greg Leis

“Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.”
Acts 6:7
“I feel the main purpose of the ministry is to equip the saints with the Word,” says Tom Schultz, manager of the Media Ministry at Crossroads Church. Tom has been fellowshipping at Crossroads/Calvary Chapel Grass Valley for about 13 years. “I was excited to see the…Calvary Chapel banner on the church when I first moved to Grass Valley. I had been saved at Rio Linda Free Will Baptist Church and had been listening to the Bible Answer Man and Raul Ries on KFIA in those days and understood Calvary to be a good Bible-believing church.”
Tom, 54, has spent his whole life in the Sacramento area and the Foothills. He’s the father of 3 children, all who at one time or another regularly attended activities at Crossroads. Tom has been an insurance investigator for 22 years after 12 years as a contractor, and recently purchased a “fixer-upper” in Alta Sierra.
Seven years ago, Tom became involved with the Media Ministry. “I think I’ve managed the ministry for around five years or so, but I [first] served in it under the excellent tutelage of Dave Fulmer (the previous manager). I had no special qualifications other than marginal computer skills.”
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

“The Media Ministry gives others something to take away and revisit at home or in their cars driving, or they can give it to friends, family or strangers to spread the Word.
The duties range from recording Wednesday evening studies, Sundays, women’s events, guest speakers , retreats, and feeding the many servants with a free CD when they are unable to be in the sanctuary while serving in the parking lot or children’s (ministries). We also furnish recordings for our weekly radio program and internet archives of Crossroads Bible studies.”
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Leviticus 6:6-9
“It’s really exciting to see the enthusiasm that the Spirit activates with the media being gobbled up by the sheep,” relates Tom. Eight people serve in the ministry, but ”we can use more help at times.”
Tom concludes, “It’s an honor and a privilege to be part of this ministry. It’s a joy to serve in it and I am blessed because of it. But it does come against the adversary, being as it is dealing with the Word. The enemy hates the Truth going out. It will prevail however, because Jesus has subdued everything!”
