VACATION part one

July 9th, 31e by Todd Johnson

This is the hottest and smokiest vacation of my life.  I’m not complaining, just commenting.

We’ve spent the first two days of our time off at the baseball field in Lincoln.  Caleb made all-stars this year ( we’re really proud of him and his hard work on the field) and his tournament only lasted two games as his Auburn team just wasn’t up to the challenge that Tri City and Lincoln gave them.  They lost their first game decidedly, and lost to Lincoln last night 8-9 in a game they definitely should have won.  Caleb was the lead off batter for Auburn and hit a single and was then driven in on a triple.  Great 1-0 start that lasted 3 innings until the Lincoln bats got hot and we went down something like 6-1.  We rallied back to within one and actually went up 7-6 on a steal home, but the run was reversed when the ump said our runner didn’t touch the plate. (REALLY bad call that would prove the deciding run later).  Lincoln rallied again and went up 9-6 in the top of the 6th (which is the last inning in majors).  We came back in the bottom of the 6th to 9-8 and had bases loaded with only one out, and we couldn’t advance those runners with the next two batters and lost the game by one run.  The boys were pretty crushed.

Oh well… all stars is over… it’s really really hot out… there’s smoke in the air… and I’m stuck in the house on my computer with kids running everywhere.  I think I’m going to make a turkey sandwich now.

Deep Todd, really deep! I just got through eating a sandwich. Now I think I’ll meditate for the rest of my lunch break on all that you’ve shared.

  2. TW Says:

Hey Todd… join the group…. most of us are all stuck in the house too. It is 101 here in G.V. with smoke. :( I think all of Calif. is on fire. I never seen it like this before. How come you are not down south on your board??? Bet you wished you were. :) Good game!!!! Caleb, making the all-stars. I know how hard the kids have to work to get there. Think cool…… or stand in front of the air.
    Blessings.. :)

Did that turkey have a choice on whether it would be in your sandwich or did you predestine it to be?

P.S. Do you put your mayonnaise on pre-turkey or post?

  4. Todd Johnson Says:

Perry - the sandwich was not that deep… just one and a half slices, but it was pretty good.

TW - I would give anything to be on a surfboard under blue skies right now but it just isn’t a possibility this time (not yet anyway… we’ll see).

Tom - The Turkey had no choice. It’s destiny was fixed and fate sealed. Mayonnaise and mustard were both pre-turkey.

Vacation sounds nice. I was trying to plan a vacation to Mexico but I think I may enjoy sitting here in 105 degree weather, breathing in smoke, much more enjoyable.

Question on the turkey is did the farmer who grew it have a plan and purpose for its life? Are you fulfilling that purpose now in chomping it down?

    Deep is right
