A Deadly Belief

With all that has been said within the creation vs. evolution debate, we must guard against thinking this is nothing more than a debate of personal belief. David Catchpoole has a very good article that connects the dots between atheism and the most recent school shooting in Finland.  He posts some of Pekka-Eric Auvinen’s (Finland school shooter) beliefs:

  • “Life is just a coincidence…result of long process of evolution and many several factors, causes and effects.”
  • “Religious people, your gods are nothing and exists only in your heads.  Your slave morals means nothing to me.  I’m the god and devil of my own life.”

Catchpoole goes on to write:

“As the high school shootings in Finland and Columbine demonstrate, what a person believes about origins can be devastatingly destructive — not just to their own life, but the lives of people around them.”

just reading what is above brings up an interesting event that happened today. while i was working my friend text me a disturbing note. he had asked what i would do if he killed himself. just thinking he was kidding i didn’t think any thing of it. as our conversation continues i find out he was serious and he was very angry. as he kept talking i found out that several things had happened but he didn’t say what. not long after, my other friend asked me if he had said to me what he asked her. the friend with the text had told me before that he was taking a break from Christianity because he was angry with God and He was with him, he didn’t say why but i didn’t push the point. iv heard from other friends he doesn’t get along with his mother that well and his father is also in Iraq. tonight he said that God was ignoring him or he didn’t care about him. later he stated that he was putting on a band aid and to be quiet because he was talking to him self. i assume that he probably started to cut himself. he is not like this at all and it worries me. i pray for him but if i were to talk to him what would i say?
