An Hour is WAY Too Long

July 9th, 31e by Todd Johnson

Eph 2:19-20 ESV

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20  built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone

Family.  There is nothing as wonderful as family.  Be it our biological family, be it our spiritual family, we are all made to function best in family.  But like anything else that has value there is a lot of work involved in maintaining healthy relationships.  While I spend some time away from the church attending to my wife and children (and myself!) consider the implications of 1 Thessalonians 2:12-28 and weigh your own reactions and responses to the many in your life that fall into the description of “idle, unruly, weak, fainthearted & evil”.  Oh, and don’t forget to throw yourself in there as well.  I’m sure you fit in there somehow.

Enjoy the excellent teaching through our guest pastors this month.  I’ll miss you.  Pray for me.  Pray that I’ll be a fun dad and a considerate husband.  Pray that I’ll get some quality time with the Lord.  And if you think about it, pray that when I return I won’t speak so long on Sunday morning (the tape ministry personnel informed me that I set a personal Sunday morning record… I went for over an hour second service).  An hour is too long!  WAY too long.  What a patient church family I belong to.

Todd - It didn’t seem long to me. No one fell off the balcony. No harm done!

  2. Todd Johnson Says:

Perry - maybe if somebody did fall off the balcony it would wake up the people that I’ve put to sleep down below. :)

  3. Lynn Says:

    yeah for podcasts!
in the message…so if somebody is fainthearted, discouraged, weak…don’t let them fall, encourage them; encourage their faith…hold them up until they can stand on their own….uphold them….everyone grows at a different rate…God is very patient and he encourages the weak and the fainthearted..do we? thanks for the question, it is worth so much prayer. Jesus forgave us freely. Amen!

  4. Kandy Says:

    Todd,
I just want to thank you for letting the Holy Spirit lead your teaching and the time it takes. It really isn’t up to us is it? As long as you listen to Him the timing will always be perfect. Thanks for your obedience.

  5. Lori Says:

I totally agree with Kandy. The Lord knows what each service is in need of hearing and as you follow His guidance, He will speak through you and all will be blessed by it. Thank you for following His lead.

  6. Todd Says:

    Hi Ladies.

I appreciate your words. And while sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit is a must, I think He’s been telling me to “shorten-up” :)

We’ll see when I get back if I’m capable.
